2013 - a younger me

James Charter, Team builder and leader

This site is my personal blog and a place for me to put some of my thoughts to print regarding technology, consulting, observations and the things I find interesting or are overly passionate about - usually people consulting and technology.

I am a consultant, leader and architect who is passionate about high performing teams, service excellence and service development. I am based in British Columbia, Canada.

In Early March 2013 I was grinning ear to ear when I learned that I had been successful in completing a multiple year journey to become VMware Certified Design Expert #106.

Fast forward ten years and I have expanded my experience to include growing and leading high performing teams, solution architecture and design, program leadership, partner relationship management, professional services practice development and product management.

I've also had the privilege of being a contributing member to technology partner advisory boards and councils. Additionally, I've shared my insights and knowledge by presenting at Canadian regional events and partner conferences on diverse topics, such as cloud trends, cloud solutions, and data resiliency.

Prior to my first consulting job, I worked for a rapidly expanding international energy services company for over six years.  This was my first job in IT and this fast paced environment gave me all the challenge and opportunity I could handle.  This was also the place where I first saw what VMware virtualization could do (ESX 2.5), worked on my first SAN (EMC CLARiiON), and was introduced to several consultants from a solutions provider.  When the time came to move onto the next challenge - I already knew where I wanted to work and that I wanted to be a consultant.

I am privileged to have worked with a lot of really great people over the years: clients, partners and peers.  This enables me to learn something everyday - which is why I wanted to become a consultant in the first place.

Every day I am learning to be a better leader and consultant through interacting with each of you.
